Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly.” –Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
As we begin our To Us, You Matter Civic Engagement Summer, our youth leaders are studying the interconnectedness of what Dr. King calls “The World House”, in which we all benefit from and are dependent on each other. This extends to people around the globe whom we do not know, but whose culture and work support our lives.
We can acknowledge our interdependence in simple daily acts of gratitude to others for our food, our clothing and virtually everything that sustains us.
Check the label in your clothing, for instance, and see where it was made. Be grateful to the people of that nation for providing for you. Consider what their lives are like and how you are connected.
