Maestro Morgan talked with our youth and staff in our online leadership seminar

“Articulate the thing you want to have happen in the world, then always make the choices that get you closer to that goal.” –Michael Morgan

Leadership crosses all fields and transcends professions, which was abundantly evident in our online seminar with musician, educator and symphony orchestra conductor Michael Morgan. Maestro Morgan talked with our youth and staff about listening as an important aspect of leadership, about working on our weaknesses to transform ourselves as leaders and how to avoid distraction by always making choices that support our goals.

Maestro Morgan has been a leader in the music world since he was a child, excelling as a student and young conductor with prestigious orchestras in DC, New York, Chicago and Oakland, where he has served as Music Director of the Oakland Symphony for 30 years. He has always brought a community-inclusive approach to music. His audiences are as likely to hear music by hip-hop, gospel, rock and folk artists as they are Beethoven and Mozart. To him great music is great music regardless of the style, and leadership is about bringing people together.

ICL continues to turn on a dime, increasing our online classes and sessions during the shelter-in-place order. We are bringing experts from around the world with feet-on-the-ground experience in organizing, civic engagement and public service together with our youth and staff.

This is an excellent time to study the relevance and importance of transforming ourselves to make change in the world.
