“Leaders are always learning because the times are always changing. We are constantly confronting new challenges and new adversaries. Therefore, we are always adapting ourselves to these new situations and contexts.”
María José Alaníz joined our youth leaders and staff by phone from her home in Managua, Nicaragua for a leadership seminar today. Some takeaways:
“We must always look at how we can each become better at every step and every moment. We can’t lead others unless we are willing also to work ourselves.”
“Leaders never stop leading, but we are always transforming and improving our ability to guide others.”
María José comes from several generations of change-makers, revolutionaries and leaders in Nicaragua. She has led non-profit, public, and international organizations and programs that improve communities, public service, fight poverty, illiteracy and injustice.
ICL continues to turn on a dime with increased online classes and sessions during the stay-at-home order. We are bringing experts from around the world with feet-on-the-ground experience in organizing, civic engagement and public service together with our youth and staff.
This is an excellent time to study the relevance and importance of transforming ourselves to make change in the world.
